The House On Sorority Row

A seemingly innocent prank goes horribly wrong, resulting in a group of sorority sisters targeted and stalked one by one...

THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW is another 80's gem that tells the story of the girls of Pi-Theta sorority who decide to have one last fling before graduation- which means secretly staying at the sorority house and have the graduation party there instead. Which in turn pisses off their grumpy house mother, Mrs. Slater, who promptly puts an end to the festivities. She tells them to leave immediately, and in true slasher fashion, the girls decide to pull a cruel prank on Mrs. Slater.

Which of course leads to Mrs. Slater's accidental death. The girls hide the body in the filthy old pool at the sorority house (Mrs. Slater had always refused to clean it, for whatever reason...).  As they blithely continue their party, they simply decide to deal with the body tomorrow. No big deal, right?  Until the body turns up missing, that is, and they suddenly find themselves being killed by an unseen murderer.  Is it Mrs. Slater back for ultimate revenge?  Or did somebody else witness the prank resulting in murder?  That's where the fun begins.

All the typical early-80's slasher elements are here, kids. I distinctly remember the sleazy-looking VHS box in my youth, perched on every shelf of every video store in America. Overall it's a rather fun and enjoyable 80's slasher that doesn't take itself too seriously and almost seems to be having fun with both itself and the genre.

THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW has achieved a sort of cult status today, and it's easy to see why. The actresses give it their all here and it's one of the better slashers to come from the decade. I love my college slashers, and this is a perfect example of them. Yes, lots of fun to be had in THE HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW.

There's much to love about sleazy/cheezy 80's slashers anyway, and the nostalgia factor is on point here. The killer is creepy, an abandoned sorority house is a perfect setting for a slasher, and the camp level is quite high here.  It's entertaining on all levels and well worth a look if you haven't seen it.
